Gloriann Heikes grew up in central Minnesota and has been a longtime educator and tutor. She has taught students from preschool through fifth grade, as well as college where she developed and taught a Child Development Associate (CDA) Program.
She currently has a teaching certification in K-6 elementary education as well as a Reading Endorsement, both in Minnesota and Florida. Her master’s degree is in child development. Over the past 2 years, she was trained in Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS). It is a professional learning program for educators based on the science of reading, focusing on phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension. She has served as a reading interventionist for 2nd and 3rd grade students, as well as an instructional coach for educators working with students from birth-5th grade. Gloriann has tutored many students over the past 30 years as well, in both reading and math skills. Her superpower is finding unique, creative ways to reach each student and help them become passionate learners.
“When I began looking for better ways to serve students and their families, I kept asking myself several questions: What do families need to support both their child’s growth and their own lives? How can I offer meaningful support when learning to read or complete math feels challenging? What could change in the education system to help families raise confident learners? As I looked for a better way to reach and teach students, I found my way to Fireside Learning Academy. At Fireside, we believe in educating the whole child — mind, body, spirit, and leadership. This is exactly what I was looking for. Helping your child soar and become an inquisitive learner is my calling.”
